This training for BYU classroom teachers and TAs will help you get acquainted with Canvas LMS in preparation for Fall Semester, 2025. Class will be held over six one-hour periods, MWF from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m., July 7 through July 18. We will meet in TNRB W-108, or on Zoom (link provided after registration).
This training will cover the following topics:
- Canvas LMS setup, preferences, and settings
- Configuring new courses for use with BYU class sections (using AIM)
- Importing existing Canvas course content
- Creating new content: Pages, Assignments, Discussions, Quizzes
- Communicating and interacting with students in Canvas (announcements, Canvas messages)
- Grading student work submissions and using the Canvas Gradebook
- Installing plugins
- General tips for success in Canvas LMS
This class will be a live, in-person format, with some learning activities to be done solo outside of live class time. A remote option (live and recorded) will be provided for those whose schedules and locations prevent live participation, but participants are strongly encouraged to participate in-person whenever possible.
